Here at Greave House Farm we have lots of jobs and activities that you can be supported to do. We have geese, ducks and chickens that all need looking after. This means cleaning theirs houses out, feeding them, and giving them fresh water to drink and swim in. You can also collect the eggs, pack them in boxes and stick labels on them ready for selling. They are very funny to watch and we enjoy having a sit down and being entertained after our work.
Anyone interested in beekeeping can help to look after the bees. But if you don’t want to go near them, you can still help by pouring the honey into jars for selling.
There is always lots of gardening jobs. Planting seeds, weeding, digging, watering, looking after trees and also picking food that’s ready to eat. You can use this food to learn how to cook healthy meals in the farmhouse kitchen.
Depending on ability, you can enjoy short counrty walks where we pick wild fruit such as bilberries, blackberries and crab apples to make jam. You can take this home but we also sell our food on a market stall, which you can help with if you are interested.
If the weather is really bad there are indoor activities such as washing plant pots, making bird scarers, writing jam jar labels, cleaning garden tools, tidying up. There are lots of craft activities we can plan and we’d like you to suggest ideas of your own if there’s something you would like to do.
If you are interested in seeing if this kind of work is right for you, we can show you round and then you can come and spend the day with us, trying out the various jobs. If you decide you want to come regularly, you will become a Day Worker and work every Monday. This is the only day available at the moment. You will need to pay £40 per day and also bring a packed lunch.
We will buy you safety boots, and waterproof clothing. We can also help you to learn the bus route if needed and meet you at the bus stop. The number 57 and the Supertram Link bus both bring you close.
